那些令雅思考官们心动的英伦潮语

很多英式的地道表达在雅思口语考试中起着重要的作用。很多美国俚语(American Slang)在雅思口语(Ielts Speaking)考试中并不是那么的适宜，毕竟雅思口语是英国剑桥大学(Cambridge University ) 所创立。所以老师强烈建议在雅思口语的学习中多积累一些英式的expressions & phrases。尤其是idioms. 老师是每天阅读BBC News ，尤其是其中BBC英语教学的栏目，非常的不错，今天就给全球的广大烤鸭们分享一些英式的地道表达( British English Expressions ).

如下都是引用的“BBC 英文教学”中的短语：

1) 今日短语 A shoo-in

可用来形容对于胜利十拿九稳的人或团队。注意：单词 "shoo" 的发音同“shoe 鞋子” 一样。

例句

Rachel thought she'd be a shoo-in for a promotion within the company.After such a successful role, the actor was a shoo-in for an award nomination.He's a shoo-in to win the next election. He'll win easily.

请注意

短语 to be in someone else's shoes 的意思是设身处地换位思考。

例句

If you were in her shoes, you wouldn't have gambled that money away.

2) 今日短语 如果说一个东西 as dead as dodo

意思就是这个东西已经不再重要了，过时了。我们通常使用这个短语来谈论思想或潮流。

例句

In the past people used to watch and record videos on VHS, but no that format is as dead as a dodo.

The perception that smoking is good for your health is now as dea as a dodo.

请注意

我们用 dead duck 来形容一件事情不怎么成功。

例句

Frank's coffee shop business was a dead duck sadly. His coffee was just awful, and the shop was in a bad location.

3)今日短语 短语 fly off the handle 的意思是大发脾气，勃然大怒。

例句

When I told Dad I had crashed his car again he flew off the handle.

Jane is trying to get to sleep, so if you wake her up she will fly off the handle.

短语 to get a handle on something 的意思是理解、掌握某事。

例句

I don't like this new computer - I can't get a handle on the strange keyboard.

4) 今日短语表达 a loose cannon的字面意思是“一个没有被固定的大炮”，但其实际意思和打仗没有关系，它被用来形容一个爱招惹麻烦、我行我素、举止无法预料的人。

例句

Jason is an enthusiastic smart worker, but he can be a bit of a loose cannon. That’s why I get him to approve everything through me before he does it.

杰森是个充满热情的聪明人，但他总是我行我素，行为完全无法预料。所以我要求他在做任何事情之前先得到我的同意。

Peter is seen as something of a loose cannon by other team members.团队的成员都觉得彼得是一个举止无法预料的人。

She’s widely regarded as a loose cannon by those in the company.

5) get up on the wrong side of the bed.

你有“起床气”吗?早上睡醒后会心情不好、对人发脾气、无精打采、心理阴暗、对叫醒你的人怒目相视甚至大骂……恭喜你，这些都是“起床气”的症状^^“起床气”其实是个很普遍的症状，所以在英语里也有相应的表达方法，是什么呢?

wake up/get up on the wrong side of the bed/get out of bed on thewrong side

有起床气/起床的方式不对/一大早起来心情不好

使用场景：

A：Why are you getting mad at me? Did I do anything wrong?

A：你干嘛冲我发火啊?我做错了啥?

B：Sorry, I got up on the wrong side of the bed.

B：不好意思哈，我这是起床气/一定是因为我起床的方式不对。

A：(shouting in a rage)

A：(怒吼中)

Others：(whispering)Sounds like someone got up on the wrong sideof the bed

this morning.

其他人：(窃窃私语)这人好大的起床气/某人是今天早上起床的方式不对吧……

所以，一大早心情不佳的、发脾气的，通通可以称之为getting up on the wrong side of the bed，总之都要怪wrong side of the bed。虽然对应的中文是“起床气”，但是小编觉得，说是“起床的方式不对”，似乎更可爱一点呢~

6) 短语 the icing on the cake

“蛋糕上的糖衣”的意思是使一件原本己经很好的事物变得更好，锦上添花。

例句

It is great to see my team in the final. And now I've got tickets to watch the match in the stadium - this is the icing on the cake!

Mary's salary will double with her promotion. All the foreign travel and luxury hotels she'll be staying in are the icing on the cake.

请注意

我们用短语 a piece of cake “一块蛋糕”来形容易如反掌的、轻松的事，正如汉语里说的“小菜一碟”。

例句

I am very good at Maths. The final exam will be a piece of cake.

7) No-Brainer.

在英语里，我们可以用 no-brainer 来形容生活中极其简单的事情。这个说法还可以用来强调、说明一个决定很容易做出，根本不需要伤脑筋去想。这是一个非正式表达，一般以单数形式出现：a no-brainer When George had to choose between either sitting at home all daydoing nothing or coming out with me for a bit offun in the park, it was a no-brainer!

当乔治面对在家无聊得呆一天或跟我到公园去玩这两个选择时，我不用想都知道他会选哪个。

This sounds like a no-brainer, especially for those people with language skills.这个听起来太简单了，尤其是对于那些有语言技能的人。The offer of a full scholarship made Sally’s choice of university a no-brainer.那所大学提供全额奖学金，这让莎莉很容易得决定了去哪所大学上学。
